I Think, Therefore I am
I want you to get stronger and become a better athlete by first understanding the famous quote by René Descartes, ‘I think, therefore I am’.
What do you think it means?
Getting clear about this statement may be one of the most important things you ever do. It basically boils down to self belief, but I’m not going to insult your intelligence with an explanation of self belief! However, what I will do is say this;
“Become who you want to be, NOW”
Think of your 5 favourite athletes/film stars/singers/famouspeople and imagine them BEFORE they reached a high level of success. Do you think David Beckham became an elite footballer when he first signed for a premiership club? Do you think Jonny Wilkinson lived his life with discipline only after becoming a pro?
The reality is that the best pro athletes have always been the best athletes. So throughout their childhoods, teenage years and their ENTIRE LIVES they have lived AS IF THEY WERE ALREADY SUCCESSFUL!
You must live your life as if you are already a PRO athlete. If you were getting paid to perform and millions of people were going to watch you play on Sky Sports/ESPN every weekend, what would you do differently?
Would you have a more disciplined approach to your diet?
Would you get more sleep and cut down the partying?
Would you miss training because you felt tired?
Would you have structured yearly plans and goals?
If you think this sounds crazy, then that’s fine, you don’t have to tell anyone so no one will think you’re crazy (F**k ‘em if they do!), but you must still live as if you are already a pro athlete. Look, even the stars were living their dreams BEFORE they got rich and famous...
‘I always knew I’d be rich’ – 50 Cent
'I’ve always been famous, you just didn’t know it' – Lady Gaga
‘I always knew I was destined for greatness’ – Oprah Winfrey
‘In my mind, I've always been an A-list Hollywood superstar’ – Will Smith
“I always knew I was going to be rich. I don’t think I ever doubted it for a minute.” - Warren Buffett (Third richest man in the world).
I’ll say it again; You must live your life as if you are already a pro athlete. When you get your head around this, you’ll become the best athlete you can possibly be.
