For example....

...there I was, exhausted and annoyed.

 

just been bollocked for not knowing how to make a ham salad...

 

And the damn bar wasn't moving off the ground

 

* * *

 

I worked in a restaurant when I was a teenager

 

After school till about 11pm-1am

 

I'd lift weights AFTER the shift

 

(so don't give me your lies about not having enough time, if you want something enough you'd make the time)

 

 

One evening, after the usual shouty kitchen shift

 

I went home to lift some weights

 

Specifically, to deadlift a new max

 

But the bar wasn't moving

 

I was so tired I just wanted to sleep

 

I was angry - having just been shouted at

 

 

But rather than go home and go to sleep

 

I stood outside, looked up at the stars and just took a minute

 

Then I went back into the gym,

 

got my focus back

 

tensed all my muscles HARD

 

And got that bar off the floor! 

 

 

165kg when I was 16

 

To me at that time, that was HUGE

 

I just wanted to run home and tell my parents how much of a badass I was

 

:-)

 

 

BUT

 

Imagine if I had given up

 

If i didn't train after work and late at night

 

If I did let what others think about me put me off

 

There's quite a few lessons here:

 

  • NEVER GIVE UP
  • TRAIN WHENEVER YOU CAN
  • IF YOU WANT SOMETHING BAD ENOUGH, YOU'LL FIND THE TIME
  • WHAT OTHERS THINK OF YOU IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
  • FOCUSING ON THE GOAL WILL GET YOU THERE
