The Low Carb MYTH Explained...
Last week I accidentally started a thread entitled
5 MIND BENDING FITNESS TRUTHS!
this has gone VERY deep haha, but I'm here to help!
SO I truly hope you're enjoying it and getting some breakthroughs!
the first three truths have been covered, which were:
1) EATING MORE FOOD WILL MAKE YOU LOSE BODY FAT
2) RUNNING IS MAKING YOU FAT
3) MOST BACK PAIN CAN BE CURED WITHIN 30 MINS
...and you can read them on the blog here > http://rawstrength.co.uk/blog/
today's topic is a HUGE myth that people are always asking me about...
CARBS
are carbs good?
bad?
does limiting carbs burn body fat?
does eating too many carbs cause fat to be stored?!
let's dive in as this is not a black and white answer.....
The BIGGEST variable in all nutrition programs, is how HEALTHY the person already is
For example,
if you are living off turkey dinosaurs, chocolate and pot noodles
AKA un-healthy foods
then cutting carbs COMPLETELY is going to be hugely important and beneficial!
the reason?
you likely eat way too many calories already
so a few months of zero carbs is EASIER for you to comprehend and do as a rule
it also cuts out sugar, forces you to think wisely about the foods you do eat and you'll probably increase protein and healthy fats as a result of this simple rule
which is GREAT!
BREAKTHROUGH #1 - if you're UNhealthy (you don't exercise or eat healthy foods) then a few months of ZERO carbs is beneficial
....but here's the grey area
the part where people misunderstand and continue to eat ZERO carb forever
....eating low carb PERMANENTLY will not benefit you long term because your metabolism and fat burning mechanisms basically require carbs to function
your body literally STORES carbs in something called glycogen (stored in the muscles and liver)
...and this FUELS training.
The harder you can train, the better your results are gonna be
So carbs = good
understand that eating carbs in a balanced diet is HEALTHY, and that's what we are striving for.
Carbohydrates FUEL you, the key is having a balanced amount
as a rule, about 35% of your daily calories should come from carbs
SO.....
BREAKTHROUGH #2 - When you're already healthy you MUST eat carbs as part of a balanced diet
Let's say 'health' for the purposes of this statement means you've been training & eating clean for 6-8 weeks
the reason this works BETTER than low carb diets for fat burning
is the very PROCESS the body must go through to burn fat requires carbs as a fuel source
AKA blood sugar, this FUELS training
RECOVERY from training
as long as you keep glycogen 'topped up' then you can train like a BEAST
Guess what happens when you train harder?
you demand more energy from your body
the energy for this extra demand comes from BODY FAT!
SUMMARY
(as I know this has gone a little deeeep!)
Scenario #1 = if you are unhealthy then eat zero carbs for 6-8 weeks to improve habits
Scenario #2 = after 6-8 weeks of training/eating right, then get 35% of your daily calories from carbs OR start here if you already eat healthy foods
Fuel your body
you will train harder and get BETTER results
really hope that has simplified the low carb myth for YOU
